The Do’s and Don’ts of HIPAA #Infographic #HIPAA

As a healthcare provider, it’s critical to know and understand the information that you’re able to share under the HIPAA law. HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and it was introduced in 1996. Its primary concern was to make sure that health insurance was provided to employees that were in between jobs, and to diminish the use of one’s health information in fraudulent situations.

In 2003, the Privacy Rule came into being, which was a way to protect the personal health information of every individual. Even with the law in place, there are actions that are acceptable with a written authorization, but there are also numerous actions that are illegal unless authorized. This infographic will outline the different actions that require authorization and ones that healthcare providers can do without the consent of a patient.
